IML - Improvised
Music Leeds
 |
Paul
Hession founded IML in 1996 as an organisational umbrella to coordinate
workshop and concert activity in his home town. This usually takes
the form of a series of weekly music workshops which are open to players
of any instruments, and all levels of ability. |
These sessions
immerse the players in the methodology of free improvisation and prepare
them for a concert.
The last workshop of the series is led by a guest musician, who is also
invited to devise a piece for the group. This meeting becomes a preparation
and run-through for a concert the following evening. This way of working
gives players an insight into the various approaches open to the improvising
musician and an opportunity to gain experience playing in a large group
context.
